PVC Resin and Formulation

Abstract

We will cover what raw materials are used and how it is made. Why do we have so many grades and which grades are used for what end products. Also, this talk will cover about why PVC can be used for so many products from wire and cable coverings to rigid siding and fencing. Will cover some basics in compounding and processing.

About the Speaker

Bob Paradis has worked with in the Vinyl Industry for more than 50 years beginning with Diamond Shamrock in the early 60’s. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts with a BS in ChE and later received a Masters from Cleveland State University in Industrial Engineering Management.

He has 3 patents and has authored many papers as well as co-authoring a chapter on PVC in the APPLIED PLASTICS ENGINEERING HANDBOOK.

Bob was part of the group, which developed the original powder compounds for the first vented two stage single screws. This work changed the PVC industry. Powder compounds plus the use of twin screw extruders made the industry what it is today.

Bob has held various levels of responsibility at 3 major PVC Manufacturers, Diamond, Oxy & Formosa and has made significant technical contributions at each company.

He has been a member of TPC since the early 1960’s and has held various positions on the committee including chair.
