SPE UNEP Town Hall Meeting

SPE members and stakeholders are invited to a special online townhall meeting on November 1, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm (Eastern Time), hosted by SPE President Conor Carlin.

During the meeting, President Carlin will discuss SPE’s recent accreditation in the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA) and the impact of this milestone for SPE, its members, and its stakeholders. With this accreditation in the Science & Technology Major Group, SPE now has a new role in both UNEA and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), allowing for observer status for the ongoing work of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee on Plastic Pollution in the development of an international legally binding instrument on plastic pollution, including in the marine environment.

President Carlin will outline how participation supports SPE’s mission to advance polymer science, foster innovation, and increase our global influence. Key discussion points include:

  • Enhancing SPE’s global visibility and influence on environmental issues.
  • Participation in global environmental initiatives and projects.
  • UNEP’s fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC-5), taking place Nov. 25-Dec. 1, Busan Exhibition and Convention Center in Busan, Republic of Korea.

This townhall meeting is an excellent opportunity for all SPE members and stakeholders to learn how SPE’s UNEA accreditation will help to shape our future, both in North America and globally.

We look forward to your participation!
