SPE Names Dr. Asami Nakai as New Editor for Polymer Composites

Dr. Asami Nakai has been appointed Editor of SPE's technical journal, Polymer Composites, effective July 1, 2024. Polymer Composites is a leading publication in the fields of reinforced plastics and polymer composites, offering peer-reviewed research on the production, processing, and applications of composite materials.

Nakai brings a wealth of academic and research experience to her new role. She graduated from the Faculty of Textile Science at Kyoto Institute of Technology (KIT) in 1994, earned a M. Eng. from KIT’s Department of Polymer Science and Engineering in 1996, and completed her D. Eng. at the University of Tokyo in 1999.

Her professional journey includes positions as Research Associate and Associate Professor at KIT, and since 2012, she has been a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Gifu University, where she also directs the Composites Research Center. Nakai's research interests encompass composite manufacturing, thermoset and thermoplastic polymer composites, and fiber science. She has published over 130 peer-reviewed articles and 19 book chapters and has chaired international conferences in polymer and composites science.

Dr. Sadhan C. Jana, Executive Editor of all SPE Journals, expressed confidence in Nakai’s appointment, highlighting her extensive experience and her ability to engage with the composites research community across Asia. "Dr. Nakai’s connections and expertise will be invaluable in attracting top-quality submissions and special issue contributions from researchers in Japan, China, India, Korea, and beyond," said Jana.

SPE publishes several technical journals that cover specific areas within the field of plastics and polymers: Polymer Engineering & Science, Polymer Composites, Journal of Vinyl & Additive Technology, and SPE Polymers.
