This election is to select the Councilor for SPE Detroit. Voting will be open through January 31, 2024.
Note: SPE Detroit Board approved a change of Presidential term from the current one year to a two year term on a second vote that was completed Friday December 15, 2023. Significant Bylaws changes and reevaluation of officer structure are in process.
Elections for other officers will follow later in the year at a yet to be determined date.

About Tom Miller
Tom Miller has been a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers since 1993 and has been active with the SPE Detroit Section since 1998 when he became a member of the Education Committee. Tom was elected to the SPE Detroit Section Board of Directors in 2000 and he received the Outstanding Achievement Award from Section President Nippani Rao the same year.
Since joining the Detroit Section Board, Tom has served as Chairperson of the following committees: Education (’99-’00), Awards (’00-’01), Membership (’01-’03), Programs (’03-’05). Tom’s major contribution to the section came during his year as Detroit Section President (’05-’06) when he was successful in achieving his goals to minimize efforts of volunteer leaders without sacrificing value and to work closely with the SPE Automotive Division to drive value to our members.
Tom joined Channel Prime Alliance in September of 2022 as 1 of 4 Account Managers responsible for sales in Michigan. Prior to joining CPA, he was the Automotive Sales & Marketing Manager in the TPE Division at Teknor Apex. Tom spent 16 years at BASF Corporation in the Performance Materials business unit where he served as the Transportation OEM Manager.
Tom launched his career at The Dow Chemical Company where he worked for 10 years in positions ranging from Color Technologist, Technical Service & Development and Global Program Manager. He also spent 4 years with Ticona Polymers as the Automotive Interior/Exterior Market Manager and 18 months with BP Amoco Polymers as the Market Development Manager in their Engineering Plastics business. In 1994, Tom was awarded United States Patent #: 5,300,350 for developing a blackcolored,laser-writable blend of carbonate polymer and polyester.
He has also delivered technical presentations and had papers printed in several thermoplastic industry publications. Tom has been involved in the plastics industry since 1989.
He has been married to Christine for 33 years and lives in Brighton, Michigan. His son T.J. is an Account Manager at Braskem responsible for export & resale sales and Andy is a body-in-white Buyer for Fisker Inc.
